Visions from Big Sur

In the first major retrospective of Carolyn's art work, over seventy five of her paintings and works on paper were showcased. Like Henry Miller before her, Carolyn draws inspiration from the grand beauty and stark isolation of Big Sur to create art that explores the wondrous mysteries of human nature and the natural world. Painting in the manner of an alchemist, Carolyn creates imaginative scenes that convey the full range of human experiences from the dark to the joyous and celebratory. She sees her art as a conduit of unconscious, universal truths that can help raise our self awareness. Her innovative art draws from diverse currents ranging from Action Painting to Surrealist Fantasy, and celebrates the unbounded capacity of the human imagination to dream and translate experience into poetic symbolism.
